RBI Monetary Policy Meeting: Monetary policy meeting of the Reserve Bank (rbi mpc meeting) will start from today. This is the first meeting for the financial year 2024-25.

Let us tell you that the repo rates are being kept stable for 6 consecutive times and this time too there is little hope of change in the repo rates. Experts believe that this time too the repo rates may remain stable. 

What is the opinion of SBI experts?

SBI economists believe that RBI may cut repo rates in the third quarter of financial year 2025. According to a research report, Chief Economic Advisor Soumya Kanti Ghosh had said that RBI will not change its stance for now. RBI banks have to give loans only at the rate of repo rates.

If we talk about other countries of the world, Switzerland is the first big economy which has cut policy rates. After this, Japan has also changed the negative trend of interest rates after 8 years. 

What is Repo Rate?

Repo rate is the interest rate at which the central bank of India i.e. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gives loans to commercial banks. On this basis, the EMI of the loan takers is decided.

When repo rates increase, banks increase loan interest rates. At the same time, when repo rates decrease, banks reduce loan interest rates. 

Why does the repo rate change?

Let us tell you that the Reserve Bank increases and cuts interest rates to control inflation. This is inflation, to stop which central banks all over the world keep increasing or cutting interest rates.
